Purch It Trending: Netflix Shop

Today is a very special day for the Purch It App and the whole family, not just because it’s a sunny day in the North East of England (where summers are usually wet). But because one of our assumptions about the industry that we’re pursuing has come to life! And it’s that Netflix has opened an online store! 👇

What does this mean for the Purch It app?

It means that merchandising in movies, in SVOD (subscription video on demand) originals, in particular, are and have always been here. So now there’s an easier way to find your products without going to 3rd party stores/online retailers.

It also means that Netflix is branching out to toys, clothing and games, similar to Disney, allowing creators and brands to increase their potential and reach.

Think about what this means even in the kid’s category; StoryBots, BeatBugs and True (Dance and Sing with True) being sold from a Netflix online shop without having the hassle of looking through other toy retailers like eBay or Amazon.

Now, It will be a lot simpler and quicker to find product placements you’re interested in within your favourite Netflix original, especially when integrated and used with the Purch It app! Imagine shopping from the comfort of your sofa — with a couple of taps, and you’ll be able to find merchandise from your favourite show while watching it.

How will it help Netflix?

Purch It will track all the engagement with content scanned from Netflix, getting a representation of how many users were interested in particular product placements within their original content, which can result in sales.

Why will users use the App?

It’s a quicker and simpler way of discovery, whereas before, if the user is interested in product placement, they would have to search for it online with a phrase similar to this:

“X show, season 1, episode 5, character name, product”

And even that sometimes won’t give you the correct information. Also, users gather points for every scan they make. These scans will earn vouchers, enter competitions or donations to charity. What’s not to like?
